In these current economic challenges in the country where so many graduates are home unemployed or have no reliable source of income, it is still the more interesting that brilliant ideas do still exist to make some decent money for a start. There are a few creative minds out there who have been able to start something on their own even in this unfavorable economic conditions. These people are certainly not fortunate, I personally know some of them who were able to turn unpromising situations around and are now reaping the fruits of their labour.
A part of this problem is how we are trained in school, our training is such that after school the next thing is to search for a job. Parents themselves hardly challenge or encourage their kids to start something on their own not to talk of support. My interaction with some entrepreneurs revealed when the world had no belief in them, their family whom they could look to as a source of inspiration also thought same. Now we hail them these days when we hear their names but their journey to the top was never smooth sailing.
It is quite encouraging these days to see young entrepreneurs in our country but we can certainly produce more. In as much as the capital to start is a problem, it must be said creative ideas are severely lacking in most of our graduates and this poor mentality stems right from school where graduate’s critical thinking and analytical skills are nowhere near good enough. One great man said there is no shortage of brilliant ideas on this planet but the only shortage is the people to have these brilliant thoughts.
Our country may not offer the favorable conditions for businesses to thrive but we the youth of the nation can’t just give up because of this. We need to be creative enough to offer ideas that can solve everyday problems and make life comfortable for our fellow citizens. The days of finish school, look for a job is gradually coming to an end; we live in an age where young people all over the world are trying to develop or bring new ideas on board to solve real life problems and make the world a much better place to live in.
The big question for you and I is what are we also doing to change the world? What are we doing to help our nation? We need to start thinking differently and build our own dreams, obviously not all can be entrepreneurs but this generation has the potential to make an impact in the country and around the globe. The challenge therefore befalls on us. We are certainly capable of making Ghana a place we all will enjoy and feel proud to call our home.
