The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but the things you do for others remain as your legacy- Kalu Ndukwe Kalu is back today with something on the Inspiration front. Finding your purpose in life is a significant step to fulfilling one’s dreams and aspirations in this world. You cannot succeed in life when you don’t seem to know your strengths which can be of benefit to your family, community and the society as a whole.

There are several young people out there these days who are struggling to make it in life because they are failing to find their purpose. God created us into this world with unique talents to help fulfill our purpose on this earth. You and I were not created to make up the numbers but to find our purpose in life to contribute to humanity. You cannot be wandering about on this earth without having any goals or targets set before you to achieve.

When I was a teen, my father used to tell me ‘‘my son how you see life isn’t how it really is’’. He normally made such comments to me when I am not being serious about something prompting me to sit up and act responsibly. Some people have eyes but they can’t see, always complaining about their lives and attributing people’s success to mere luck or abundance of opportunities available to them.

Have you asked how long are you going to pass up opportunities in the hope of getting a so called bigger opportunity? You have so many opportunities available to you but you have failed so far to find your purpose in life to identify these opportunities. Your life is personified as the vulture, who always procrastinates in building its home, always thinking there is more time on its side in the sunny period to make her home.

We age with each passing day with our time on this earth slipping away. Never be deceived into thinking you have so much time on your side. When you interact with most people who failed in life they will tell you they failed to find their purpose in life to take advantage of the opportunities that came their way in their youthful years. They procrastinated, never ever thinking they will grow old one day and when reality hit them it was too late to change their fate.

You cannot blame anyone if you don’t make it in life. The key to success in life solely depends on you. You cannot be blamed for being brought into this world in a poor home but you can certainly be blamed for not making it in life as you grow old. In fact you have no excuse at all as there are great men and women in this world who came from very poor backgrounds but have managed to make it big in life.

How do you want to be remembered when your time on earth is up? Do you want to be seen as the non-entity who contributed nothing to family, church, community and the society as a whole? OR you want to be remembered as that special individual who made a huge impact on his peers, family and the society to the point that even in your grave your legacy lives on?

If you are yet to find your purpose in life it’s never too late as they say better late than never. You need to sit down and have a proper look at yourself. You need to ask yourself some questions.

  1. What are you so good at that people genuinely appreciate about you?
  2. Have you thought of investing time to develop these skills or talents?
  3. Have you asked yourself if you can turn these skills or talents into making money of which people will be willing to pay?
  4. What opportunities do you find in your community that you can take advantage of to make some money?
  5. Have you motivated yourself enough as an individual to face the storms of life that may appear along the way?

Answers to these questions will at least provide you with a starting point to finding your purpose in life.

A word of caution also goes to those who are making it along the way as they must guard against complacency. There are several stories of people who started so well but ended up in an appalling manner. It’s the end that really counts so keep your focus and have your eye on the prize.

On a final note, let’s all find our purpose in life to be of value to humanity. To make life better for ourselves and make the world a wonderful place to live in.
